That I believe is one of the many reasons we are so special.The Gumbo factor. Artists from everywhere falling into the bowl the lowest point in America.
I hope that dialog gets in. But after seeing what David has done I would never try to second guess him. He is a true artist. destined for validation.

They took away our truck today ,the one we evacuated in. The last vehicle out.
Of Higwyay 11,They closed the bridge behind us.The truck where aunts bit us as we slept to tired to care.
We went back to see the area almost a year after the storm. All the vehickles lay on their sides in the dicthes and Bayous. dogs stood on top . We retreated in horror.

Today Dec 16th we stood watching holding one another as they hooked up old Stewball. The wrecker driver must have thought us insane.

Stewball was a good truck, with a banged up truck bed but her engine ran soft as the finest silk thread.

We rode her in Texas N we rode thru the rain and she saved us from Katrina again and again. We have almost no income right now but we are happy and thankful.

I wish you could come by on your way up north.

No need to answer this. Im lonely latley and rambleing on and on. Old ones live in the past so much of the time. Hilly is sick.

Winter Dance

The New Orleans Ballet Association in conjunction with the City Recreation Department hosted the 2006 Winter Dance. The program for local youth offers free after school dance classes and a recital complete with music and food. This is a wonderful program for children ages six and up.

The Green Projet In New Orleans

The New Orleans Green Project will dissasemble your storm ravaged home and recycle any valuable or architecural elements back into the community. If you want to match a paneled door or the hardware on your claw foot tub start here. Almost everything in the place has the feel of a destressed artifact. A piece with a history. I hope that other cities will embrace this concept of recycling more than just raw materials.

A Garden View

Mid-winter is the time for pruning and planting in New Orleans community gardens. There are many ways to get involved. The planting season will last for another month, so if you are interisted in replacing the fruit trees and other plants you have lost this is the time.

There are many outlets for excersizing your green thumb in New Orleans. Take a look at the large clusters of ripe grapefruit. They are ready to pick this week. I took a trip out to the garden and had a few of these myself. They are amazing, so if you would like to get a taste move fast. Or you can leave a message or comment and I can pick a few for you. Really.

Also... We are looking to partner with a local nursery that will be willing to make moves for the community gardens. So if you have a lead, or would like to donate a tree or two...

A Front Porch Community

Clean Up in the Byater community will likely take all winter, with the hope that in the spring the local gardens will regain their pre-storm vigor.

Voulnteers from many organizations are helping to restore the grounds after nearly a year of heavy use.

The graden was home to many displaced residents in the days following hurrican Katrina. And many of the items and materials that were left behind will be integrated into the restored landscape.

There will be a call for designs when all necessary aspects of the garden have been approved by the local community.

You can expect a notification on this page with details regarding the design selection process when it is released.

Bywater residents enjoy the warm atmosphere of many neighborhood coffee shops. The area is full of color and flavor. Local artists, craftsmen, and familys, meet to discuss the area developments like it is a sleepy western town waking up to the new day.

On a cold night 20 miles outside New Orleans many hurricane evacuees and voulenteers try to stay warm while camping in area parks. These pictures were taken in Fontainebleau State Park.
